Preparation of Manual of Specification and Standards (MSS) for Chennai Monorail, India

The Challenge

Government of Tamil Nadu through Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), planned to offer some of busy corridors of the city totaling to about 111 KM initially for design and development of elevated Monorail Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis.

Since there was no Specification

and Standards for Monorail systems available in India, MTC appointed Balaji Railroad Systems Private Limited (BARSYL) for preparation of Manual of Specification and Standards for the proposed Monorail system in Chennai region.

 

Project Approach

  • BARSYL team had been provided performance specifications and guidelines of the proposed monorail systems.
  • The services provided by BARSYL were preparing General Technical requirement/specifications of rolling stock, alignment, Signaling and Train control, power supply and tractions, communication system, automatic fare collection system, maintenance depot, accommodating structures, station planning and design, building services, operation control centre, commissioning of the rail system, work site safety and reinstatements and traffic regulations.
